Interview with Dorothy Williams [electronic resource] 2004 April 22 / interviewer: Christina Wright ; transcriber: Adele Barnes.

Ms Dorothy Williams describes her childhood growing up in the Dilworth neighborhood of Charlotte, N.C. She remembers an old fashioned neighborhood with churches, stores, and residential areas. Latta Park was a magnet for the neighborhood children and Ms Williams recalls the culture of the time. She recalls attending the Carolina Theater and shopping at Belk, Efird's and other stores. She lived close enough to a local radio station that she could go to the station and watch the Briarhoppers perform. Ms Williams tells of her school years, attending Dilworth, AG. and Central schools. Dilworth and AG were neighborhood schools and Ms Williams and her friends all walked to school. They rode the trolley to Central. Ms Williams enthusiastically details trolley rides, her father's job as a streetcar motorman, and her family's feelings when Charlotte City Council supported the move from trolleys to buses in an effort to modernize the city's urban transportation.
